In 1973, Napa County women were preparing to set the world on fire with a new generation of premium wines. Their success is reflected today by the distinguished labels under their stewardship... Domaine Chandon... Firestone Vineyards... Far Niente... Alderbrook ... Spottswoode...Domaine Carneros...St. Supéry, to name only a few.

The same year, another team of Napa Valley women made headlines around the world by forming California's first all-woman fire company. "The hands that rock the cradle can also put out fires," the Knoxville (Tennessee) Journal declared in surprise. "Die Frauen sind bel der Fauerbekampfung wirklich Feuer und Flamme!" was the echo from across the Atlantic.

"Wine, Women and Fire" will be the theme of the Home Winemakers Classic 2000, Saturday July 22, 4:30 - 7:00 p.m at St. Supéry Winery & Wine Discovery Center, Rutherford.

The founding members of the Dry Creek-Lokoya women's fire company will be recognized by Congressman Mike Thompson in a ceremony during the event. Come meet these visionary women, learn what kindles the fire of their imaginations, and celebrate on behalf of the many professional women in the fire services who have followed in their footsteps.
